Our Equipment

Two Machines That Clear and Dig

Most jobs start with the tracked loader and its mulcher head. It grinds standing brush, saplings and small trees into chips right where they stand. The chips stay on the ground as a layer that holds soil on a slope. That is forestry mulching, and it suits ridge ground and old pasture.

The mini excavator handles the other half of the work. A brush cutter attachment takes down heavy brush and small trees along banks and fence rows. With the bucket on, the same machine digs stumps out, cuts trenches and shapes ground. That covers excavation and the digging that comes with a clearing job.

Both machines ride to the job on our own equipment trailer. Having the loader and the excavator on site means the ground gets cleared and shaped in one trip. The finish grade gets done while the machines are still there.

Forestry Mulching

We grind standing brush, saplings and small trees into mulch with a mulcher head on our tracked loader. The chips stay on the ground and hold the soil in place.

Brush Clearing

We cut overgrown fields, pastures and fence rows back down to open ground. A brush cutter on the mini excavator reaches banks, ditch lines and fence rows from level footing.

Stump Removal

We dig stumps out with a mini excavator, root ball and all. The hole gets backfilled and bladed level so the spot can be mowed or built on.

Grading and Site Prep

We level pads, smooth rutted ground and shape lots after clearing. The finished grade sends water away from your buildings instead of toward them.

Gravel Driveways

We cut in new gravel driveways and lanes on rural lots, and regrade drives that have rutted or washed out. The surface gets crowned so water runs off the drive instead of down it.

Drainage

We install French drains and drainage trenches that move water away from houses, cabins, barns and driveways. The mini excavator digs the line, then pipe and washed stone go in so the ground drains.

Why Choose Marloy Hill Enterprise

Overgrown ground, opened up and made usable

Based in Augusta

We work out of Augusta, on US-50 between Romney and the Virginia line. That means ridge ground, shale and clay soil, grown-up fence rows, and old pasture growing back in.

Machines Suited to This Ground

A tracked loader with a mulcher head clears standing growth, and a mini excavator does the digging. Tracks spread the weight on soft ground and hold better on slopes than wheels.

Free On-Site Estimates

We come out, look at the property with you, and price the work. The estimate costs nothing and gives you a number before any machine shows up.

Panhandle and Valley Coverage

We cover Hampshire, Mineral, Hardy, Grant, Morgan and Berkeley counties in West Virginia. East of the line we reach Winchester and Front Royal, roughly 50 miles from Augusta.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions About Land Clearing?

The questions Hampshire County property owners ask us most. If yours is not here, call or text and we will answer it.

Call (540) 327-1400

What does land clearing cost?
Price depends on the property: acreage, how thick the growth is, tree size, slope and access. Lot clearing for a house site runs higher than opening up a field. The ground has to come out clean and level for a build. We give you a price after we look at the property, and the estimate is free.
Do you charge for an estimate?
Estimates are free. We come to the property, go over what you want done, and price it from what we see. Call or text (540) 327-1400 to set one up.
What areas do you serve?
We are based in Augusta, in Hampshire County. We work across the Eastern Panhandle, including Mineral, Hardy, Grant, Morgan and Berkeley counties. In Virginia we cover Frederick County and Warren County, so Winchester and Front Royal are in range. Figure roughly 50 miles around Augusta.
What is the difference between forestry mulching and brush clearing?
Forestry mulching grinds standing brush and small trees into chips where they stand, using the mulcher head. The chips stay on the ground and hold the soil. Brush clearing uses the brush cutter on the mini excavator to cut overgrown fields and fence rows back. Which one fits depends on the growth and what you want the land to do.
Do you take the stumps out?
Yes. We pull stumps out with the mini excavator, roots and all, rather than grinding them down. Then we backfill the hole and level the spot so it can be mowed, seeded or built on. That is stump removal, and it matters most where a driveway, a pad or a drain line is going.
Our yard holds water after it rains. Can you help?
Shale and clay ground here holds water, and hillside springs push it toward buildings. We dig French drains and drainage trenches with the mini excavator. Pipe in the trench carries water away from the house, the barn or the driveway. Drainage work often happens on the same visit as clearing or grading.
Can you fix a washed-out gravel driveway?
We regrade gravel drives that have rutted or washed out, and shape a crown so water runs off. We also cut in new drives and lanes on rural lots. Mountain lanes wash worst where water runs down the drive instead of off it.
How much room do you need to get equipment in?
We bring the loader and the excavator in on our own trailer, and we need a spot to unload. Both machines are compact and run on tracks, so they fit through gates and along fence rows. If access is tight, we work that out at the estimate. Scheduling depends on the weather and how wet the ground is.
