Most of what we dig has to do with water. That means a trench for a drain line or a ditch that moves runoff off a lane. The bucket cuts a clean trench and the dirt comes out where you want it. French drains and yard drain lines are the most common reason people call us for trenching.
The same machine cuts in a new lane or driveway. We dig the bed into the slope and shape the sides so water runs off instead of down the middle. After that, gravel driveways get their stone and their crown.
Small jobs are worth a call too. Opening a plugged ditch or cleaning up ground after stump removal takes the same machine and the same trip.
Ground here is rarely flat. Hampshire County sits in ridge and valley country, so most property runs uphill somewhere. The soil over the ridges is clay and shale weathered off the rock underneath. It holds water near the surface and turns slick in wet weather.
